“What’s that?” your husband asks. “On your leg?”

You run to the mirror and there it is, a big blue mess of veins behind your knee that ages your beautiful legs. Your mother has varicose veins, and you hate to say it, but she’s…old, and she doesn’t really care to hide them.

You, on the other hand, you work hard for these flawless legs, and you love to show them off.

What are you supposed to do now?

At San Diego Body Contouring, we can help. We have helped hundreds of San Diegans remove their spider veins and varicose veins, and get back into the shorts they bought to show off their great legs.

What are spider veins?

Spider veins are small, thin, blue blood vessels that can be seen beneath the skin. They’re usually harmless, but they can be a symptom of poor circulation and varicose vein formation.

What are varicose veins?

Varicose veins are veins that have enlarged and twisted, and they often appear as bulging blue blood vessels that are visible through the skin. In some cases, they are merely cosmetic, but in others, they may cause cramping pain and movement problems.

If you notice that you have either spider veins or varicose veins, it’s important talk to your doctor about whether they’re merely cosmetic or are the result of poor circulation or something else that needs to be addressed. Your doctor may recommend compression stockings or pantyhose, exercise to boost your circulation, or horse chestnut seed extract to help decrease vein dilation.

As for the appearance of those unsightly veins, there’s no proven way to reduce them aside from professional treatment.

We’re professionals, and we can help

At SD Body Contouring, we offer sclerotherapy, a medical procedure that is both painless and effective in reducing the appearance of varicose veins and spider veins.

How sclerotherapy works:

During the sclerotherapy procedure, we’ll elevate the affected leg to drain the blood, and then we’ll inject your vein with a special solution called a sclerosant. This solution damages the innermost lining of the vein, which causes the vein to close. This sounds worse than it is. You have many many veins, and obliterating one will not harm your body or your blood flow. When your blood no longer takes that route, the vein no longer bulges and shows through your skin.

At SD Body Contouring, we also use Photoderm, a state-of-the-art light therapy that enhances the results of your sclerotherapy. We do the procedure under local anesthesia right here in our on-site accredited operating room, and when we’re finished, we know you’ll be pleased to see the youthful appearance of your legs.

Your treatment will take between 20 and 30 minutes, and the number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Some patients require only one. Others need more. If you require more than one visit, we’ll schedule them a few weeks apart.

What to expect after your sclerotherapy treatment

After the procedure, we’ll wrap your leg in a compression bandage or a support stocking, which we’ll advise you to leave on for 24-48 hours. It’s best if you avoid exposure to the sun for about 30 days in order to reduce the chance of dark pigmentation forming at the injection site.

You may experience mild itching or temporary tenderness at the site of the injection, but that should disappear within a few hours.

Bonus:

Sclerotherapy costs much less than invasive surgeries, and there’s no hospital stay!
