Difference Between a Tummy Tuck and Liposuction

Difference Between a Tummy Tuck and Liposuction

July 27, 2015 No Comments Liposuction

When the sun comes out and the beach calls, it gets more difficult to hide your body’s problem areas, doesn’t it? While some of us are dissatisfied with our buttocks and others with our arms, there’s one troublesome part that we can all agree on: the abdominal area.

Doesn’t it seem like no matter how often you go to the gym and no matter how well you eat, part of your stomach still bulges over your bathing suit?  Or maybe you’ve had a baby or lost massive amounts of weight, and you’re left with excess skin on your abdomen.  Either way, if insecurity about your abdominal area keeps you hiding behind your beach cover-up, then maybe it’s time to do something about it.

San Diego cosmetic surgeon Dr. Charles Sarosy has helped sculpt thousands of beautiful bodies with liposuction and tummy tucks. Both procedures tighten and tone the midsection, and can dramatically improve the way you look – and the way you feel.

Not sure of the difference between liposuction and a tummy tuck? Read on for a basic overview of the two procedures and to determine which one is best for you.

Liposuction San Diego

During the liposuction procedure (lipoplasty), Dr. Sarosy will inject you with a local anesthetic and insert a small suction tube (a cannula) into a tiny incision. General anesthesia is not necessary. With a high-pressure vacuum, Dr. Sarosy will extract the subcutaneous fat cells from your abdomen to slim and reshape your midsection.

Liposuction is less invasive than a tummy tuck, and the recovery time is much shorter.

Liposuction is best for those with generally good skin and muscle tone, but who want to get rid of those localized fat deposits that have been resistant to exercise, diet, and weight loss.  However, it won’t eliminate extra skin, stretch marks, or issues stemming from slack abdominal muscles.  Liposuction is also commonly used on “love handles,” arms, chin, legs, and buttocks.

Tummy Tuck San Diego

The tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) usually requires general anesthesia. During the procedure, Dr. Sarosy will make one incision across your lower abdomen. Then he will make another incision to free your naval from the attached abdominal tissue.  This will allow him to tighten slack abdominal muscles and eliminate excess skin and fat deposits. Dr. Sarosy will then re-drape the rest of your skin over the abdominal area and suture it into place. You’ll leave his office with a flatter, tighter abdomen.

The tummy tuck procedure is popular with women who are finished having children as well as those who have lost a lot of weight and want to remove excess skin and stretch marks. Though it does require a couple of weeks to recover after a tummy tuck, the results are worth it!

If you’re still not sure whether liposuction or a tummy tuck is best for you, then maybe you should consider doing both. Yes, they can be done together!

Isn’t it time to shed your beach cover-up and step out into the sun? Women all over San Diego have come to board certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. Charles Sarosy to help them get the body they’ve always wanted. Maybe you should, too.
