What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is vacuuming out fat deposits below the skin using a hollow, stainless steel tube commonly referred to as a cannula. Although the procedure takes longer using a smaller cannula, the Vein and Liposculpture Center always does so to keep the skin as smooth as possible.
Some of the most popular areas for liposuction are abdomen, thighs, arms, buttocks, and back. These areas tend to be resistant to diet and exercise and for many people, liposuction is the only way to remove the fat in these areas.
Is Liposuction Painful?
Liposuction is usually performed using one of 3 methods of anesthesia local anesthesia, general anesthesia, or heavy IV sedation.
What are the Different Methods of Liposuction?
This method of Liposuction uses large volumes of saline solution, local anesthesia, and adrenaline, which is infused into the fatty area being treated to cause swelling. This enables your surgeon to maneuver a small instrument, cannula, connected to a vacuum machine, superficially under the skin. The cannula is inserted into the fatty tissue through tiny incisions. Your surgeon gently moves it around under your skin and suctions away the unwanted fatty deposits to reveal more attractive contours. Local anesthesia is the safest form of anesthesia. The effects of this local anesthesia persist for many hours reducing, the need for narcotic pain medications after surgery.
Cool Liposuction is an additional step that can be used with tumescent liposuction. A small laser cannula is used during the procedure to add a “skin tightening” element to the liposuction. It also stimulates the production of collagen and breaks up dimples.
Vaser Liposuction is an additional step that can be used with tumescent liposuction but uses ultrasound to help reshape your body. Fat cells in the back are much more fibrous making them more difficult to remove. Areas that have been liposuctioned before tend to be more fibrous as well. Vaser Liposculpture melts the fat to make it easier to remove but has the benefit of helping tighten the loose skin by the heat generation.
