If you’re like most people when it comes to hair removal, then:

  • During the winter you let your hair grow out in hidden places that don’t see the light, and…
  • When spring and summer roll around,
    • Hair removal suddenly becomes a second job (if you’re a shaver)
      Or…
    • You build your social calendar around your upkeep appointments (if you’re a waxer)

Sure, it may only take 10 minutes to shave, but if you do it every other day through the 186 days of spring and summer, that’s 15.5 hours of shaving! And waxing? Well, yes, a good wax job can keep you smooth for 3 weeks, but then you have to let the hair grow out ½-inch before your next appointment. That’s 6 whole weeks of spring and summer lost to hiding the hair growth!

Why put yourself through the pains of shaving and waxing when laser hair removal removes the hair permanently?

Shaving vs. waxing vs. laser hair removal

Shaving and waxing are two common hair removal methods, but both are temporary. Laser hair removal is proven to permanently remove unwanted hair.

Let’s talk about this.

How shaving works:

Shaving cuts the shaft of hair off right where it meets the skin. No matter how many blades your razor boasts, it still gets nowhere near the hair follicle, so that hair just keeps growing and growing and growing.

If you’re lucky, you’ll get two days of smoothness with shaving, though some people’s hair can be seen and felt above the surface of the skin later the same day.

How waxing works:

Waxing pulls out the hair from the root. It affects a portion of the shaft of hair that sits below the surface, making it more effective than shaving and resulting in much longer regrowth time. Waxing is considered semi-permanent because it can leave the skin smooth for a few weeks at a time. Regular waxing can damage the hair follicle and multiple sessions may lead to thinner hair growth, but because waxing doesn’t destroy the follicle, the hair will eventually come back.

One of the major downsides of waxing is that it requires ½- to ¼-inch regrowth to be effective. So, although you may get three weeks of smoothness, you also have to suffer through a week or so of unsightly and uncomfortable stubble between appointments.

How laser hair removal works:

Laser hair removal destroys the hair follicle. Period. This leads to a permanent reduction in hair growth. Because not all hair is at the same stage in the growth cycle at the same time, laser hair removal does require more than one session. But once the hair follicles have been destroyed, those hairs won’t grow back. So you’re left with smooth, hair-free skin in the treatment area.
