Full Facelift vs Mini Facelift at san diego body contouring

When it comes to the signs of aging, everyone has a different breaking point. For some, the very first sign of a double chin or slightly sagging neck may result in a panicked drive to the nearest cosmetic surgeon. At San Diego Body Contouring, we’ve had patients show up at our door with a barely visible wrinkle and ask for a full-fledged facelift. While we do understand that everyone wants to hang onto their youth for as long as possible, it’s not always necessary to take the most extreme measure.

The facelift in particular has long been known as one of the most effective cosmetic procedures for providing more youthful contours to the aging face.  But not everyone requires the dramatic results that a full facelift provides.  Sometimes less is more! For many of our patients at San Diego Body Contouring, a mini facelift provides just the right amount of lift for age-defying transformation.

What’s the difference between a full facelift and a mini facelift?

A full facelift is a surgical procedure that addresses sagging skin, excess fat and tissue, and deepening fold lines in the mid face, lower face, and neck. It often requires several incisions, including some (but not necessarily all) of the following: below the chin, in front and back of the ears, up into the hairline, and into the hairline behind the ears. A full facelift requires general anesthesia and typically at least two weeks of recovery time.

A mini facelift is a less-extensive surgical procedure used to lift the skin and provide definition in either the lower face and neck or the cheek area, rather than all of the above. As such, the doctor requires fewer incisions to do the work of lifting and repositioning skin and other facial tissue. A mini facelift is a great option for those experiencing early jowling or minor skin laxity in the cheek, neck, or jawline.

The benefits of choosing a mini over a full facelift include:

  • Fewer incisions

  • Done in-office with local anesthesia only

  • Less risk

  • Faster healing (recovery time: approximately 7 days)

  • Less downtime

  • Less expensive

  • Better for minor facial aging

  • Better for localized concerns (such as deep creases around the mouth)
